The definition of black carbon, the influence of black carbon, and the research progress of black carbon emissions from ships are reviewed, and the relevant conferences on black carbon content and the proposals on the topic of black carbon emissions from ships in the Arctic of IMO since 2008 are listed. The measurement methods of black carbon emissions from ships are described, and the calculation method of black carbon emissions from ships are proposed, which can provide basis for the subsequent establishment of measurement method of regional ship black carbon emission.
