中国历史文化名城制度走过了复杂、曲折而辉煌的40年。40年来,通过艰苦卓绝、持续不断的保护工作,以不同层级的历史文化名城、包括大遗址在内的各种文物、各类历史城市与乡村为主要物质载体,中华文明的根脉和精神得以在整体上留存并传承至今。可以说,名城保护为今后城市化高质量发展和中华民族伟大复兴奠定了坚实的基础。展望未来,以系列国家中心城市和城市群为引领的新型城镇化将成为城市化高质量发展的重要方向。可以预见,各类历史文化资源将进一步在区域尺度上形成重组、联动、整合的发展态势,而现有名城结构也将产生相应的变化。这种与城市群系统相匹配的、以一定地理环境为基底的“名城集群”或“名城组团”将形成国家和区域层面的历史文化空间新格局。这一空间格局不仅能更好、更系统、更深刻地阐释中华文明的演化过程及其深刻价值,而且能够为即将到来的、以快速和大规模城市化为特征的“亚洲世纪”提供具有可操作性的中国方案和中国思想。

China’s historical and cultural cities system has gone through a complicated,difficult but glorious forty years.During this period,through hard and continuous conservation,various historic cities and multiple types of heritage,including large sites and traditional villages,have been conserved and passed on as the roots and spirit of Chinese civilisation.It is clear that the conservation of historic cities has laid a solid foundation for the high-quality urban development and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Today,a new type of urbanisation led by a series of national central cities and city clusters will become an important direction of urbanisation.It can be predicted that various historical and cultural resources will be further reshaped and integrated at the regional level,and so will the existing historic cities as clusters or groups to match the mega-regions.And in the meantime,a new pattern of historical and cultural space at the national and regional levels will take shape.
