摘要
《中国印刷史》是一部权威印刷专业通史,贯穿中国几千年文明史。书中富含具文化特色的术语、专有名词和表达方式,文化缺省现象突出,是该书英译的难点。本文总结了该书英译中为保留原文异质性和补偿文化缺省所采取的策略方法,提出全补偿、部分补偿和零补偿三种方式,在提高译文可读性的同时,最大限度地维护原文的文化他者身份,达到求同存异、和而不同的翻译效果。
The History of Chinese Printing is a comprehensive and systematic treatise of Chinese printing and depicts a panoramic view of thousands years of Chinese history.It contains countless cultural-specific technical terms,proper names and expressions.As its distinct feature,cultural default poses the highlights of diffculties in its English translation work.This paper summarizes the strategy and methods to balance between maintaining foreignness and compensating the cultural defaults.Total compensation,partial compensation and zero compensation are adopted to promote smoothness and readability and at the same time,achieve harmony in diversity in order to better preserve the identity of culture other.
