蒋彝《中国书法》的跨符际英译实践研究

A Study on Chiang Yee’s Trans-Symbol Translation Practice of Chinese Calligraphy

蒋彝作为最早于1930年代系统向西方介绍中国书法的学者,针对当时西方读者缺乏对中国书法的了解,在其英文专著《中国书法》中进行了跨符际翻译实践,为西方普通读者打开了一扇了解、欣赏中国书法的大门。本文从多元系统论角度,对蒋彝中国书法译介活动所处的社会文化背景及采取的相应译介策略进行研究。

As the first scholar to introduce Chinese calligraphy systematically to the West,Chiang Yee,in view of the Western readers’lack of understanding of Chinese calligraphy at that time,practiced trans-symbol translation in his English monograph Chinese Calligraphy,which opened a door for the ordinary Western readers to understand and appreciate Chinese calligraphy.This paper is to analyze and study the social and cultural background of his translation practice and corresponding strategies in the 1930 s from the perspective of polysystem theory.
