自1953年始,我国开始进行大规模建设,向国家工业化目标进军。作为政府总理的周恩来,在抗美援朝战争取得决定性胜利后,他就以主要精力投入到主持编制和实施为新中国工业化奠基的“一五”计划之中。历史证明,“一五”计划既优先发展了重工业,也照顾到了农业和轻工业的发展,人民生活水平普遍提高,是非常成功的。“一五”建设不仅为我国打下了实行社会主义现代化建设的初步基础,也为我国后来的社会主义建设事业积累了丰富经验。周恩来在其中功不可没。

Since 1953, our country began to undertake large-scale construction and march toward the goal of national industrialization. As the premier of the government, Zhou Enlai, after winning the decisive victory in the war of resistance to the United States and aid to Korea, put his main energy into the preparation and implementation of the “first five-year plan” which laying the foundation for the industrialization of the People’s Republic of China. History shows that the first five-year plan gave priority to the development of heavy industry, agriculture and light industry, and generally improved people’s living standards. It was a great success. The first five-year plan not only laid a preliminary foundation for China’s socialist modernization drive, but also accumulated rich experience for China’s subsequent socialist construction. Zhou Enlai was instrumental in this.
