Key Elements of a Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation and a Path for Forging It

中华民族共同体意识作为一种社会意识,是对中华民族共同体这一社会存在的反映,是对中华民族共同体形成发展过程中所处的经济生产活动、社会关系以及社会结构的反映。“中华民族共同体意识”是涉及经济交往、政治认同、文化交融的心理活动过程。其核心要义包括以下五个方面:为实现中华民族伟大复兴的共同理想和共产主义远大理想而奋斗的自强意识与使命意识;以中华民族优秀传统文化、革命文化与社会主义先进文化为共有精神家园的自豪意识与守护意识;坚持党的领导、走中国特色社会主义的道路自信、理论自信与制度自信的政治意识;坚持国家利益高于一切、维护国家主权、安全与发展利益的自尊意识与责任意识;对伟大祖国、中华民族、中华文化、中国共产党、中国特色社会主义高度认同的共同体意识。

The community of the Chinese nation is a Chinese national entity that has evolved from the ancestors living on Chinese soil and has been forming throughout many struggles endured by all ethnic peoples of China in the face of imperialism and aggression in modern times.A sense of community for the Chinese nation,as a form of social awareness,is a reflection of the social existence of the community of the Chinese nation,of its economic and productive activities,social relations,and social structures in which the community of the Chinese nation has been shaped and developed.While we can perceive the objective existence of the“community of the Chinese nation”in our daily life,we sense an imperative to further pursue the“fostering of a sense of community for the Chinese nation”at a rational level.In a word,the sense of community for the Chinese nation refers to the consciousness of cognition,emotion,and affection that all ethnic groups and their members should have in terms of common ideals and beliefs,common values,a common culture,a common path,and a common spirit.This paper proposes that the key points of“a sense of community for the Chinese nation”should include the following aspects:Firstly,a sense of self-improvement and mission to strive for the common ideal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the lofty ideal of communism.Secondly,a sense of pride and guardianship of the remarkable traditional Chinese culture,revolutionary culture,and advanced socialist culture as a shared spiritual home.Thirdly,political awareness of adhering to the Party s leadership and road map,and a theoretical and institutional self-confidence in socialism with Chinese characteristics.Fourthly,adhering to a sense of self-respect and responsibility to give priority to safeguarding national sovereignty,security,and development interests.Fifthly,a sense of community that fully identifies itself with the great motherland,the Chinese nation,Chinese culture,the Communist Party of China,and socialism with Chinese characteristics.In terms of the path for forging a sense of community for the Chinese nation,this paper suggests:(A)we should promote a shared material and spiritual prosperity of all ethnic groups,enhance a sense of gain of the people of all ethnic groups,and also strengthen a sense of community and shared mission of all ethnic groups.(B)we should reshape the spiritual life world of all ethnic groups,enhance the sense of happiness of the members of all ethnic groups,and construct a harmonious and healthy common spiritual home for the Chinese nation.(C)we should integrate development and security to make China a safer and more peaceful place,enhance the sense of security of the people of all ethnic groups and heighten their awareness of responsibility to safeguard the interests of national security.(D)we should reinforce instruction on the“five views”of Marxism,and enhance the confidence of the people of all ethnic groups in the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the confidence in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in terms of road,theory,and system.
