On the Transformation of Folk Beliefs and the Growth of Local Elites: A Case Study of Mazu Belief in Putian

论述民间信仰转型的历程,探讨地方政府将民间信仰与信俗文化、非物质文化遗产传承、文创旅游等主题相结合带动地区社会经济发展的模式。指出民间信仰在现代转型过程中塑造了熟悉乡土风情、热心当地事务的地方精英群体。他们将政府意图与民间文化相结合,实现官方与民间的良性互动。

This paper discusses the transformation of folk beliefs and explores the modes of developing local social economy by local governments which rely on a combination of folk beliefs and customs, the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and the promotion of the cultural and creative tourism.It is pointed out that Mazu belief in Putian has shaped local elite groups in the process of its modern transformation.They who are familiar with local customs and enthusiastic about local affairs, who combine the intention of the government with the folk culture to realize the positive interaction between the official and the folk.
