The current academic circle has a lot of accumulation in the study of the storytelling and ballade singing adaptation of Strange Tales from Liaozhai, but the research of its evolution from a classic novel on the literati desk to the form of popular arts is still insufficient. In view of the background of the vigorous development of singing literature after the mid-Qing Dynasty, this paper discusses that although the early acceptance group of Strange Stories from Liaozhai was mainly concentrated in intellectuals, gradually the audience inevitably sank to the lower class, which was manifested by the rise of Liaozhai storytelling and ballade singing. The reasons are as follows:first, the flourishing environment of singing literature is the general background;secondly,Pu Songling's own participation also plays a key role in promoting it.
