Wilderness is an important dimension to interpret American history. Wilderness history is a unique field in the study of American environmental history. The research content of American wilderness history is very rich, including the wilderness thought and wilderness view of white people after they came to the New World, the contradictions, conflicts and games around the development, utilization and protection of wilderness, wilderness protection policies and legislation in history, and wilderness protection organizations, etc. Focusing on these themes, the American academic community has published a large number of interesting works since the 1950s and 1960s. Learning and understanding these achievements will help us to deeply understand the role of wilderness in shaping American history and culture, which is of great academic and practical significance in promoting domestic research on American environmental history, deepening people’s understanding of natural values, and promoting the construction of ecological civilization and so on.
