A Lost Lady is Willa Cather’s representative work in the middle period and is considered as the last elegy of the American pioneering era.Through the analysis of the geographical space,social space and image space in the novel,the article interprets the author’s reflection on human nature,praise and remembrance of the passing pioneering era,and keen insight and profound reflection on social change.Cather refused to sing the elegy of the times pessimistically.She broke through the shackles of narrow traditional values,tried to carry forward the pioneering spirit in the complex modern society,and encouraged people to transform the memory of the pioneering era into a driving force to adapt to social change,and move towards a new life in the changing times.
