试评译文集《坏孩子和别的奇闻》的书名和插画

The Name and the Illustrations of Bad Kids and Other Anecdotes

鲁迅先生翻译的契诃夫八部作品集的书名目前有“短篇小说”“小笑话集”“奇闻”等几种,其中以“奇闻”一词最常见也最为合适;新中国成立后重印或者再版的该译文集里面的八幅插画存在全部抽掉、部分删减、全部替代且插画数量增加等现象,笔者认为应该尊重鲁迅先生的译介初心,初版插画的原貌和数量不能随意改变,因为鲁迅的契诃夫译介首先是出于把德译版本中苏联版画家玛修丁的八幅插画介绍到中国的考虑,所以他才会把契诃夫作品的译文集安排到《文艺连丛》系列,将插画提升到与正文并重的地位;鲁迅先生借助契诃夫作品引进玛修丁的这八幅木刻版画,借此分析西洋版画家作品的特点,以帮助中国木刻工作者取长补短形成自己风格、新文艺。

The names of the eight Chekhov collections translated by Lu Xun currently include"short stories","collection of small jokes","anecdotes",among which"anecdotes"is the most common and appropriate one.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,the eight illustrations in this translation collection reprinted or republished have been completely removed,partially deleted,completely replaced,and the number of illustrations has increased.We believe that we should respect Lu Xun's original intention of translation and introduction.The original appearance and number of the first edition illustrations cannot be changed arbitrarily,because Lu Xun's Chekhov translation and introduction is first based on the consideration of introducing the eight illustrations of the Soviet printmaker Massiutin in the German version to China.Therefore,he arranged the translation collection of Chekhov's works into the Literature and Art Series,and promoted the illustration to the same position as the text.Lu Xun introduced the eight woodcut prints of Massiutin with the help of Chekhov's works to analyze the characteristics of western printmakers'works,so as to help Chinese woodcut workers learn from each other to form their own new style of literature and art.
