The 50 years of Sino-Japanese relations have been marked by ups and downs, through a period of honeymoon, structural changes and intensified competition. The development of Sino-Japanese relations has had a positive impact on bilateral relations, regional development and the global situation. History proves that the four political documents reached between China and Japan have provided a solid political foundation and important guarantee for the development of Sino-Japanese relations. There are various problems in the current Sino-Japanese relations. The intensification of strategic competition between China and Japan is the result of the interaction of various internal and external factors, including the influence of structural contradictions in Sino-Japanese relations, as well as the influence of domestic factors in Japan and external factors such as the U.S. strategy. Sino-Japanese relations have both a cooling trend and a warming momentum, basically characterized by cold and warm intertwined. The "competition and coexistence" is the "new normal" of Sino-Japanese relations in the new era. Under the "new normal", China and Japan should avoid vicious competition, and should engage in peaceful and civilized competition, enhance mutual trust in the political field, deepen cooperation in the economic and trade field, manage crises in the security field, and promote exchanges in the civil field, so as to make joint efforts to promote the warming of Sino-Japanese relations and build a Sino-Japanese relationship that meets the requirements of the new era.
