This paper takes the articles published in Japanese Journal of Cultural Anthropology since the 21st century as the object, uses CiteSpace visual document analysis software to map the scientific knowledge of Japanese cultural anthropology research since the new century in terms of major institutions, representative authors, keyword co-occurrence and keyword emergence, and analyzes its research hotspots, frontiers and stage evolution. The results show that since the new century, national universities, represented by Kyoto University, have become the core institutions of anthropological research in Japan, but a core group of authors has not yet been formed;the co-occurrence and emergence of keywords show that the research has a distinct regional and national research orientation, especially African research has become the current hot spot and frontier of Japanese cultural anthropology;in terms of research content, there is a trend toward applied anthropology. The anthropology of medical care, the anthropology of violence and conflict, and the anthropology of disaster have become important fields, reflecting the observation of social application needs and the initiative to actively serve the national diplomatic strategy.
