摘要
EIL(English as an international language),即以英语作为国际语言,反对以英语为母语者在英语语言和文化上的霸权,强调在国际交流中文化的多元性和本土文化的重要性。随着我国经济的发展和“一带一路”倡议的实施,中国本土文化和国际文化之间的交流和互动更加频繁,EIL的地位日益凸显。然而,本土文化和英语分别作为讲述中国文化和中国故事的主体和重要媒介,却未在教育实践中得到有效整合,本土文化未能借助英语这门国际语言得到充分的传播和弘扬。在大学英语课程中融入本土文化教育,弘扬本土文化,不仅能促进大学生的语言学习和跨文化交际能力,而且能打破英语语言和文化的霸权,让中国文化“走出去”,抵挡西方意识形态的负面影响,是破解本土文化困境的有效举措。因此,针对大学英语课程中如何弘扬本土文化给出了具体的建议,以期更加有效地提高中国大学生本土文化素养、跨文化交际能力和“用英语讲述中国故事”的能力。
EIL, viz. English as an international language, emphasizes the importance of local culture in international communication and opposes the hegemony of the native speaker and its culture when using English. With the development of the economy and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, there are more and more opportunities for cultural exchanges between China and non-English-speaking countries. Thus, the status of EIL has become increasingly prominent, and the interactions between Chinese native culture and international culture have become more frequent. However, local culture and English, as the main body and the important media to tell the story of Chinese culture respectively, have not been effectively integrated into education. The local culture has not been fully promulgated and promoted with the use of English as an international language. Integrating and promoting local culture through college English courses can not only improve college students’ English learning and intercultural communicative competence, but also break the hegemony of English language and culture, and at the same time resist the negative impact of western ideology and transmit Chinese culture to the whole world. Suggestions are given on how to carry out the program in order to improve more efficiently college students’ local cultural literacy, intercultural communicative competence and the ability “to tell Chinese stories in English”.
