An Introduction to Chinese Film Festivals:Sites of Translation

本文系论著《华语电影节:译域之所》序言,由该书主编、伦敦国王学院裴开瑞教授执笔。他在文中指出:迄今为止,相较欧洲电影节研究而言,华语电影节议题仍未引起足够的重视,虽然它已成为近20年来全球范围内快速增长的电影节重要来源。因而他和研究团队借助"译域之所"概念,以"华语电影节的独特或不同之处"为问题指向,考察了中国香港、台湾、内地及其它华语地区形态各异的华语电影节;既关注电影节的概念与实践如何被译介到华语世界,也着重探讨了这些电影节如何成为文化传播的场所。作为第一本关于华语电影节研究的论著,本书不仅填补了电影节研究空白,挑战了该领域的欧洲中心主义,也切实推动着另一全新学术研究领域的形成。

This essay is an introduction to a book Chinese Film Festivals: Sites of Translation written by the chief editor Chris Berry, a professor at King’s College, London. Prof. Berry argues that Chinese film festivals have been so far relatively neglected compared with the study on European film festivals, although they have played a more important role in the boom of the international film festival, particularly in the last 20 years. As a result, with an approach to the film festival as the “site of translation” and a focus on “what makes Chinese film festivals unique or distinctive”, an investigation concerning various film festivals was conducted in Hong Kong, Taipei, Chinese mainland and other Chinese-speaking regions around the world. It focuses not only on how the concepts and practices of film festival are introduced into the Chinese-speaking world, but also how these film festivals become sites of cultural transmission. As the first monograph on the study of Chinese film festivals, this book not only fills the gap in the study of film festivals, further challenges Eurocentrism in this field, but also effectively promotes the development of a new academic field.
