全球网络中的“腹地”与“江南”——彭慕兰的中国史研究

The“Hinterland”and“Jiangnan”in the Global Network:A Study of Kenneth Pomeranz’s Works on Chinese History

彭慕兰关于中国历史的研究,以宏大的学术视野和跨学科的研究方法,把近代中国置于全球性网络中去考察,通过对环境变迁史的梳理,以“中心—边缘”的视角,分析了不同历史主体之间的联系和互动,论述了“腹地”(黄运地区)这一旧网络的中心地区在全球性冲击下逐渐沦为新网络边缘的过程,以及作为中国传统网络核心的“江南”地区在新的全球性网络中日益边缘化的过程,揭示了全球网络内中国不同地区在近代工业化浪潮冲击下的发展变化,对中国历史研究有着重要的启示和借鉴意义。

Kenneth Pomeranz’s research on Chinese history,with a grand academic vision and interdisciplinary research methods,examines modern China in a global network.In dealing with the history of environmental changes,he analyzes the connections and interactions between different historical subjects from the“center-periphery”perspective.Furthermore,he discusses how the“hinterland”of the old network was becoming the edge of the new network as well as how the“Jiangnan”region changed from the core of the traditional Chinese network to the edge of the global network.He also explains the development and changes of different regions of China in the global network under the impact of modern industrialization,which has important implications for the study of Chinese history.
