The month of September represents a time of change,when we transition from summer to fall.Transitions are an important and essential part of life and chemistry.In chemistry,we routinely talk about transition states—that critical configuration that takes a system from reactant to product.Change is in fact the cornerstone of chemistry itself.The etymology of the word“chemistry”is still disputed by scholars,with some believing it has Egyptian roots and other trace it back to the Greeks.Regardless of the origination of the word,it is impossible to decouple the observed phenomenon that is now known as“chemistry”from change.
