京师大学堂藏书楼(图书馆)藏书建设述略

A Brief Account of the Collection Development of theLibrary of the Imperial University of Peking

京师大学堂经历了戊戌大学堂和壬寅大学堂两个阶段,其早期的藏书楼和后来的图书馆在藏书建设上都投入巨大。戊戌大学堂藏书楼虽然只存在不到两年的时间,但中文藏书应已超过5万册,此外还有数量可观的西文藏书,可惜在庚子事变中几乎尽遭损毁。壬寅大学堂藏书楼的藏书建设基本上从头开始,但很快就超过了戊戌大学堂曾达到的藏书数量。1904年1月,藏书楼改称图书馆,继续多方采买图书。多年坚持不懈的藏书建设,使京师大学堂以其雄厚的文献典藏而无愧于全国最高学府的称号。

The Imperial University of Peking has gone through two stages:the Wuxu University and the Reyin University.Both its early and later libraries invested a lot in the collection development.The library of the Wuxu University has only existed for about two years,but there should be more than 50000 volumes Chinese books with a considerable number of Western books in addition.Unfortunately,the collection was almost destroyed during the Gengzi Incident.The collection development of the library of the Renyin University almost starts from scratch,but soon exceeded the number of books that the Wuxu University had ever collected.In January 1904,the library was renamed and continued to collect books in many ways.Through years of unremitting collection development,the Imperial University of Peking is worthy of the title of the most prestigious learning institution in China with its rich literature collection.
