里河探源

Exploring the Source of the Inner Canal

里河,也称里运河,是指大运河江淮之间的一段水域,其前身是春秋末期吴王夫差所开的邗沟。里河名称最早出现于五代末,所指为西汉吴王刘濞所开之运盐河,即通扬运河。宋代里河,系汴河至长江北岸瓜洲、仪征之东南运道。元、明、清里河,所指即今江淮运河,为淮安清口至扬州瓜洲、仪征之京杭大运河河段。

The Inner River,also called the Inner Canal,refers to the section of the Grand Canal between the Yangtze River and the Huai River,which was formerly the Han Ditch dug by King Wu Fuchai in the late Spring and Autumn period.The name Inner River,first appeared at the end of the Five Dynasties,refers to the river for transporting salt by Prince Wu Liubi in the Western Han Dynasty,i.e.,the Tongyang Canal.The Inner River of the Song Dynasty is the southeast part of the Grand Canal from the Bian River to the north bank of the Yangtze River around Guazhou and Yizheng.The Inner River in the Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties is the Jianghuai Canal,which is the section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal from Qingkou of Huai’an to Guazhou and Yizheng of Yangzhou.
