Computational Propaganda and the Manipulation of Public Opinion in Social Media Platforms

摘要 随着社交媒体平台的发展,计算宣传活动强化了通过流量、流向和内容影响公众行为的可能性。计算宣传通过大数据与算法推荐技术,实现了“信息投喂”的自动化和精准化,针对特定受众营造出信息茧房,并基于立场政治与情感政治的逻辑,制造社会对立和群体撕裂,然后通过复杂的多元联动实现深层协同化,形成稳定的执行策略与行动机制。计算宣传不仅被广泛应用于一个国家的国内政治,也被迅速应用于国际政治领域。从效果来看,计算宣传不仅能够塑造一个国家内部的意见气候,影响政治选举与公共决策,而且还能在潜移默化中影响目标国家或地区的舆论、决策与形象塑造,甚至能够影响目标国家或地区的社会稳定与政治安全。 With the development of social media platforms, computational propaganda campaigns have strengthened the possibility of influencing public behavior through clout, flow and content. Through big data and algorithmic recommendation technology, computational propaganda has realized the automation and precision of “information feeding”, created information cocoons for specific audiences, and incited social confrontation and created group tears based on the logic of position politics and emotion politics, realized deep synergy through complex multi-linkage, and formed a stable implementation strategies and action mechanisms. Calculated propaganda is not only widely used in a country’s domestic politics, but is also being applied in international politics rapidly. From the perspective of its effects, it can not only shape the internal climate of a country’s opinion and influence political elections and public decisions, but also influence the public opinion, decision-making and image of the target country or region in a subtle way, and even influence the social stability and political security of the target country or region.
