From“urban growth”to“urban development”, cities are gradually transforming from incremental planning based on spatial renewal to demand-oriented renewal on account of residents’ needs. In this context, Guangzhou creatively proposed the urban renewal mode of“micro-transformation”, transforming the mode of traditional large-scale demolition and reconstruction into the“micro-transformation”with“embroidery”style. Taking enning road, a historic and cultural district in Guangzhou, as an example, in view of the problems existing in the reconstruction of Enning Road for more than ten years, this paper analyzes the causes and explores a sustainable path for the renewal of historic and cultural blocks through the urban renewal mode of“micro-transformation”, so as to realize the goal of the enhancement of spatial functions, the continuation of historical context and the revitalization of ancient streets.
