Comparating the contents of chemical composition(dioscin、totalflavonoids、allantoin、polysaccharides)andpharmacologicalactivities(antibacterial and the scavenging rates of free radicals)ofAnshun Chinese Yam with Chinese yam,the results show the diosgenin、totalflavonoids、allantoin、polysaccharidesofChinese yamare 0.26%、0.08%、0.08%、1.02%higher than those ofAnshun Chinese Yam,but there was significant difference inpolysaccharidescontent between the two yams(P<0.001),the difference of other contents was not ignificant. The bacteriostatic effect of Chinese yampolysaccharide on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coil was slightly stronger than that of Anshun Chinese Yam.When the volume of crude viscosity of Anshun Chinese Yamreaches 50mL,thescavenging ability of DPPHand hydroxyl radical were higher than these ofChinese Yam.They were 83%and70%,respectively.Conclusion:Compared withChinese Yam,the content ofdioscin、totalflavonoids、allantoin、polysaccharidesin Anshun Chinese Yamwas slightly lower, but the antibacterial ability of polysaccharide is close to that of Chinese Yam,and the antioxidant ability was better than that of Chinese Yamwhen the mucilage reached 50mL.
