There are two characters ■ and ■ in oracle bone script, which used to be regarded as variants of one character. But now scholars think that the former is dai(戴),whose shape is like bearing a basket on the head, while the latter is yi(異),whose shape is like a person wearing a ghost mask. This article finds that is a transitional form from to ■,meanwhile,by examining the differences of character forms in different groups and the different habits of character usage, the article agrees with the original point of view that they are variants of one character, that is,they are originally dai(戴),which are used as yi(異)because of phonetic similarity.
