翻译活动家蔡元培:成就及影响

Translation Activist Cai Yuanpei:Achievements and Influence

蔡元培为近代中国翻译事业的发展作出卓越的贡献,这不仅体现在他的翻译实践和翻译思想中,同时还体现在他以一个领导者和组织者的重要角色直接参与并促成了一系列具有重要影响的翻译活动上。本文对由其创导、组织和提议的翻译活动进行全面的考察和梳理,以进一步探究蔡元培的翻译活动成就及其影响。研究发现,蔡元培以其深厚广博的学识、开阔的眼界,运用其特殊的社会政治地位以及广泛的社会影响力组织开展了大量相关工作,在引领和推进近代中国编译事业发展、相关学科译名确定与本土化、对外交流与宣传以及提议翻译作品结集等方面居功至伟,对近代中国翻译事业的发展意义重大、影响深远。

Cai Yuanpei’s contribution to the development of translation in modern China is not only reflected in his translation practice and commentaries,but also in his important role as both leader and organizer who directly participated in and contributed to a series of translation activities with significant influence.In this paper,we examine and sort out the translation activities created,organized and proposed by him in order to further explore the achievements and influence of Cai Yuanpei’s translation activities.It is found that Cai Yuanpei,with his profound and extensive knowledge and broad vision,together with his special socio-political status and extensive social influence,organized and carried out a large number of related activities,and was instrumental in leading and promoting the development of modern Chinese compilation,the determination and localization of translation names of related disciplines,foreign exchange,and the collection of translation works,which were of great significance and far-reaching impact on the development of modern Chinese translation.
