达蒙·加格特是南非后种族隔离时期文学的旗帜性人物。他的创作起步于上世纪八九十年代南非的政治转型时期,并在本世纪逐渐成熟进而达到巅峰。加格特的创作是多面且立体的,既有对南非政治变革的见证,也有对转型后的当代社会道德问题的思考。同时,加格特对人与他者的关系等根本性的人类问题的思考也体现出了他的多元关怀。加格特对当代南非社会进行多视角的观察,并尝试不断通过开拓非现实主义的题材拓展南非文学的表达空间。

Damon Galgut is a standard-bearer of post-apartheid literature in South Africa. His work began during South Africa’s political transition in the 1980s and 1990s and matured to its peak in the 21st century. Galgut’s works are multi-faceted and three-dimensional, which not only witness the political change in South Africa, but also reflect on the moral issues of the contemporary society after the transformation. At the same time, Galgut’s concern for fundamental human issues such as the relationship between people and others reflects his diverse care. Galgut observes contemporary South African society from multiple perspectives, and tries to expand the expression space of South African literature by exploring non-realistic themes.
