This paper traces and analyzes the exhibition design methodology for the “Beijing Urban and Architecture Biennale 2021 Future·Home and the 2020 Pilot Exhibition Diversified Coexistence”(BUAB). The spatial design methodology reflected the discourse of the biennale “urban” and “architecture”. Implementing urban design methodologies, specifically Spatial Planning and City Scape Control, these temporal exhibition spaces reflected a mode of micro-urbanism. The “nine-zoned-grid” and “cross axis” for 2020 pilot exhibition is a microcosm of the Beijing city, a realization of the Biennale Logo in space and a speculation toward the future biennale. Showcasing the four themes in its curatorial: Urban, Architecture, Technology, Art,the Pilot Exhibition encompasses all the elements necessary for future BUAB Exhibitions. The 2021 themed exhibition further developed the previous system with its flexible grid in order to mediate among richly diverse and differentiated exhibition contents. “Xidan The New” had its exhibition site located within the atrium of a shopping center, taking its inspiration from the proximity to the Chang’An Street, dividing the site into the themed avenue and independent spaces, named its spatial system “galaxy and constellations”. The three exhibitions sites were interpretations of the Beijing urban layouts, and took their spatial strategies from the urban planning, transforming urban design strategies into exhibition designs that showcases urban architecture culture.
