As the main classic of early Taoism,The Xiang’er Commentary on Laozi shows a compound attitude towards Confucianism.It has both rejections of Confucianism the Five Classics from a religious standpoint,and ingratiation of loyalty,filial piety and benevolence from a traditional standpoint.Analyzing reasons for Confucianism in The Xiang’er Commentary on Laozi not only helps us discover the evolution path of early Taoism,but also understand the internal process of convergence of Confucianism and Taoism.
