The Remains of the Day双译本译者风格、成因与接受研究——基于语义情感分析视角

Study on the Translator Style,Style Formation,and Reception of the Two Translations of The Remains of the Day:From the Perspective of Semantic and Sentiment Analysis

The Remains of the Day因具有“巨大的情感力量”而得到广泛认可,但关于其译作的情感分析研究至今仍然匮乏。基于语义情感量性分析视角,展开The Remains of the Day冯涛与冒国安译本的译者风格比较研究,并对译者风格塑造因素与译本接受效果进行探析。研究表明,两个译本在“时间”“成就”及“爱情”三个语义情感范畴译出上呈现显著差异,部分原因在于译者所处主流解读范式差异,译者所处场域差异和译者身份差异。以上因素通过塑造译者语义情感风格进而影响读者接受,即总体上,冯译的读者评价情感更为积极,大众读者更偏好冯译,而学术读者更偏好冒译。情感语义分析下的读者接受探究可期延长译者风格研究链,形成译者情感风格本体描写、原因追溯与接受探析三方数据的联动互证。

The Remains of the Day is widely known for its “great emotional force”, yet the emotional analysis of its translations is still absent. This study uses quantitative and qualitative semantic and sentiment analysis to compare its translations by Tao Feng and Guo’an Mao and investigate the shaping factors and reception effects of the two translators’ styles. The two translations display significant differences on the rendering of three semantic and sentiment elements: time, achievement, and love. The differences are influenced by the different norms in the interpretation of the source text, the different fields, and the different identities of translators. Through shaping the translators’ semantic and emotional styles, these factors also influence the reception of the translations. Generally, the readers present a more favorable attitude towards the translation by Feng. More specifically, the public readers prefer the translation by Feng, while the academic readers are in favor of the translation by Mao. The sentiment analysis of reception can extend the research chain for translator style and form the interconnected mutual-validating chains of three datasets from the descriptive analysis of translator style, the tracking of style sources, and the investigation into the reception.
