The underground coal gasification(UCG)technology,as a potential way of clean coal mining,is still under engineering test and hasn’t been applied at a large scale due to restraints such as technology and economy.Key technological breakthrough should be made before the actual application.Based on the survey concerning the technology development history and the current situation at home and abroad,it is found that engineering test projects mainly involve shallow coal seam with relatively mature technology while deep underground coal gasification enjoys more advantages in environmental protection. However, the construction of gasifier and the control of gasification and other key technologies which hamper the development of deep coal underground gasification need to be further tested. In light of the features of UCG,such key technological issues as the connection of U-shape well, corrosion under high temperature and high pressure,in-situ ignition in deep coal, gasification operation control as well as gasifier combustion monitoring can be solved by way of the mature U-shape well accurate docking technology, anticorrosion technology under high temperature and high pressure, fire drive reservoir electric ignition technology, coiled tubing technology and other means. As such,it may advance the technology of deep coal gasification and promote the development of the clean coal mining industry.
