The Study of Language in Social Life and the Historical Mission of Linguistic Research in China

文章讨论中国语言生活研究的理念与成果,认为解决社会发展中的语言问题应作为语言学研究的出发点、验证处和归宿地,提倡到田野、社会、实验室、互联网上去调查语言现象,去发现、研究和解决语言问题。语言学要关注、吸收、整合相关学科对语言的研究,并为科学共同体做出贡献。社会建立并支持学科发展,是为了更好解决社会发展中的问题,社会的学科评价是强有力的指挥棒,但“五唯”之类的非科学评价会给学科发展带来极大副作用,会诱导人片面追求“科研GDP”而忘却学术真谛。评价学科与学人,主要应看其提出、解决了什么问题,应看其研究对本学科的学术提升力、对相关学科的学术穿透力和对社会发展的学术推进力。中国语言生活有其独特的中华特点,中国语言学身负重要的历史使命。我们已经在有些领域走在了世界前列。以中国语言生活为研究对象,以改善中国语言生活为研究目标,相信可以发展出更多原创性的概念、理念、理论和研究范式,繁荣中国的语言科学,推进社会进步。

Based on the relevant concepts and achievements of Chinese studies on language in social life,this paper argues that solving language issues in social development ought to be the driving force,validation criteria,and ultimate purpose of linguistic research.The paper advocates that linguists need to investigate language-related topics through various channels,in fieldwork,by surveys,at laboratories,and on the Internet to discover,examine and cope with language issues.In addition,linguistics should pay attention to,absorb and integrate the research on language in related disciplines,making contributions to building a scientific community.To better solve the issues in social development,our society establishes and supports relevant disciplinary development guided by evaluation system.However,non-scientific evaluations such as“five-only”only brings a great negative impact on disciplinary development as many scholars choose to pursue their“research GDP”at the sacrifice of forsaking the true meaning of scholarship.The evaluation of disciplines and scholars should mainly be based on the problems they raise and solve,as well as the role of their research in shaping and promoting the development of disciplines and the whole society.Language situations in China have unique characteristics.Chinese linguistic research carries an important historical mission.Chinese scholars are already at the forefront of the world in some fields of linguistic research.The paper is closed by addressing the importance of taking the language situations in China as the research object and improving language-related social life in China and calling for more original concepts,ideas,theories and research paradigms to prosper language sciences and advance social progress in China.
