“翻译暴力”与中国文化走出去

文本没有终极的意义。翻译的主要任务是传达意义,而无法完全准确科学地获取意义则使源文难以逃脱翻译暴力的侵袭。中国典籍文化的深厚性使其在经过译者的理解和再表达后更易遭受种种损伤。翻译暴力有消极和积极之分,消极暴力阻碍文化交流,积极暴力促进文化交流。译者无法避免翻译暴力,所以译者的明智之举是切实规避消极暴力,适当采取积极暴力,以便忠实源文精神,守住伦理底线。翻译暴力与中国文化走出去之间是矛盾统一的关系,译者应做中国文化走出去的促进者,而不是阻碍者。译者在典籍英译中要坚决维护中国文化的正面形象,灵活运用积极暴力,增加源文的可译空间,努力促成中西文化的融会贯通,使中国文化在异域他乡广为流传,泽披天下。

There is no ultimate meaning in the text.The main task of translation is to convey the meaning.However,it is difficult for the source text to escape the invasion of translation violence if the meaning cannot be obtained accurately and scientifically.The profoundness of Chinese classics makes it more vulnerable to various damages after being understood and re-expressed by the translator.Translation violence can be divided into negative and positive.Negative violence hinders cultural exchange,while positive violence promotes cultural exchange.Translators cannot avoid translation violence,so it is wise for translators to avoid negative violence and adopt positive violence appropriately,so as to be faithful to the spirit of the source text and keep the ethical bottom line.The relationship between translation violence and Chinese culture going global is contradictory and unified.Translators should be the promoters,not the obstacles.In translating Chinese classics into English,translators should firmly maintain the positive image of Chinese culture,flexibly use positive violence to increase the translatability space of the source text,and strive to promote the integration of Chinese and Western cultures,so that the Chinese culture can be widely spread in foreign countries and bring benefit to the world.
