朱鸳雏的短篇小说创作深受林纾、姚鹓雏的影响,在赓续文体互参传统的同时,借鉴域外小说技巧以寻求新变。其作品主要收录于《红蚕茧集》中,既蕴古韵幽光,又具时代气息,在主题题材、思想内涵、叙事手法等方面体现出一些有别于传统的现代性特征,在当时受到不少读者欢迎。由于早逝,朱鸳雏的短篇小说创作未臻成熟,表现为题材较为狭窄,且未脱摹仿痕迹。对于朱鸳雏短篇小说的创获与缺失应予客观认识,还应重估其推动传统短篇小说现代转型的独特贡献。

Zhu Yuanchu’s short stories are deeply influenced by Lin Shu and Yao Yanchu.While continuing the tradition of the mutual reference of literary styles,Zhu’s works draw on foreign novelwriting techniques to seek new changes.His works are mainly included in The Red Silk Cocoon Collection,which not only embodies the quaint style and charm,but also has the flavor of the times.In terms of subject matters,ideological connotation,narrative techniques and so forth,the novels reflect some modern characteristics that are diferent from the traditional ones,and were popular among lots of readers at that time.Due to his early death,Zhu Yuanchu’s short story writing does not reach a mature level,which is revealed by the fact that the subject matters are relatively narrow,and he failed to get rid of the traces of imitation.The achievements and drawbacks of Zhu Yuanchu’s short stories should be objectively recognized,and his unique contribution to the modern transformation of traditional short stories should also be re-evaluated.
