摘要
Reactivation of endogenous retroviruses (ERVs), the relics of ancient infections, has been implicated in a number of diseasecontexts. In this issue of Cell, Liu et al. show how reactivation of ERVs in old age can induce senescence. This awakening ofERVs is associated with their epigenetic derepression and contributes to age-associated chronic inflammation.
