Nostalgic Narratives of Homecoming: on ZHANG Huiwen’s Collection of Short Stories Flying Birds and Pond Fish

作为旅居海外的70后作家,张惠雯的写作善于通过寻常人事的日常生活来发掘人性中的善与美。张惠雯的新作《飞鸟和池鱼》中所收入的短篇小说,大多以还乡为主题。作为叙事者的还乡人,他们循着回忆的足迹,回到阔别已久的故乡,在叙述与追忆、寻找与失去、道德伦理与个体欲望、公共场域与私人空间等多重张力当中,通过与故地、故人、故我的三重探寻来关注人心、人性的变化,道出人生无法避免的生活境遇。

The writer ZHANG Huiwen was born in the 1970s and lives overseas. She is good at discovering the goodness and beauty of human nature in people’s daily life in her writing. Most of the short stories collected in ZHANG Huiwen’s new work Flying Birds and Pond Fish are on the theme of homecoming. Following their memory, the narrators return to their hometown after a long absence. In the multiple tensions of narration and recollection, search and loss, morality and individual desire, public fields and private space, through the triple exploration with the old place, the old man, and the old self, the short stories draw attention to the changes in human nature, and reveal the inevitable life situation in life.
