Objective The current study aimed to compare the subjective experience of virtual reality(VR)technology with pig eye simulation training in ophthalmology teaching, and to explore whether VR could really replace the traditional animal eye teaching. Methods The second grade and third grade residents,in the standardized training base for ophthalmology of our hospital from August 2021 to October 2021,were enrolled in the current study. They received VR and pig eye cataract simulation training, respectively. After the training, their subjective assessments about the two training modes were investigated by questionnaire. Results The average score of the VR simulation training questionnaire was(2.15±0.45),and accordingly the animal eye simulation training was(3.43±0.44).In terms of each item, such as stereoperception, handling feeling, contribution to clinical operation, and stimulating interest in learning, animal eye simulation training had higher Approbation Degree, and neither of the two training methods caused obvious dizziness and visual symptoms. Conclusion The results suggest,to some extent,in the teaching of ophthalmic cataract surgery,VR simulate training cannot completely replace animal eye simulation training at present. However,VR technology also has its advantages, and the two could complement each other.
