The Trend and Limit of Australian Labor Party’s China Policy

澳大利亚工党政府上台后,继续展现改善对华关系的意愿,重申中澳关系的重要性,强调要改变处理对华关系的方式,并采取措施推动中澳关系重回正轨。然而,相较于联盟党,工党对华政策并没有出现根本性改变,其涉华表态亦呈现明显的两面性和矛盾性,美澳同盟关系、澳国内对华消极认知以及联盟党的牵制将继续影响工党政府对华政策决策。尽管中澳关系止跌回升并逐步迈向正常状态,但两国关系难以回到过去且机遇和挑战并存。未来,如何确保中澳关系改善的势头不受干扰和不被中断是工党政府必须要面对的课题。

After taking office,the Australian Labor Party continued to show its willingness to repair relations with China,reiterated the importance of China–Australia relations,stressed the need to change the way of handling relations with China,and took measures to push China–Australia relations back on track.However,Labor Party’s China policy has not changed fundamentally.The U.S.–Australia alliance,the negative perception of China and the check of the Coalition in Australia will continue to affect the Labor Party’s policy decisions towards China.Although Sino–Australian relations have gradually returned to normal,it is difficult for both to return to the past.In the future,how to ensure the improvement of China–Australia relations is undisturbed is an issue that the Labor Party must face.
