From the perspective of historical generation,consumerism is rooted in the production mode of capitalist society and its ideological domination,and participates in the construction of people s daily life through the mechanism of symbolic reproduction.Consumerism is a concentrated manifestation of the comprehensive crisis of capitalist society,which has caused increasing tension in the relationship between man and nature,man and society,and man and himself.Only by uncovering and transcending the capitalist civilization built on consumerism can we establish fundamentally a civilization that is more suitable for human existence,and historical materialism undoubtedly provides the most powerful ideological weapon and the most thorough critical position for this.While thoroughly criticizing consumerism,historical materialism also opens up a construction path to transcend consumerism and rebuild modern society,that is,to realize the contemporary reconstruction of the way of existence,development and way of life of human society.Ecological civilization and its construction show the concepts,principles and practical innovations that are conducive to the development and transformation of human civilization,and inherently contains contemporary transcendence of consumerism.
