This paper reveals three unconventional strategies in structural design:to cooperate,to siffen,and to reduce.Whether it is the reinforced concrete exploration of Swiss engineer Robert Maillart nearly a century ago,or the lightweight construction|experiments carried out by the team from the School of Architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong,they all benefit from the use of these strategies.These structural design strategies can enhance project performance,update spaces and expressions,and even lead to novel creations.
