摘要
以往研究对作者身份(即以英语为母语的英语本族语者或以英语为第二语言或外语的二语者)是否影响指示词this两种使用形式的选择存在争议。本研究采用元分析方法,对2000-2020年间国内外12项语料库量化研究所汇报的共3,586个样本展开了整体效应分析、亚组分析和敏感性分析。整体效应分析发现,作者身份显著地影响了他们对指示词this使用形式的选择(d=0.2)。亚组分析表明,这一影响还受到二语者英语水平(d=0.6)、母语背景(d=0.4)和写作体裁(d=0.6)的调节。敏感性分析表明,教学体系和语言接触也是影响整体效应的潜在因素。本研究结果可为我国本土科研英语发表和写作教学实践提供参考意见。
The results of research comparing the use of this by native versus non-native English speakers have thus far been contradictory.To gain a better and clearer understanding of the results,we conducted a meta-analysis to quantitatively synthesize a total of 3586 samples of demonstrative this from 12 studies completed between 2000 and 2020 using overall effect analysis,subgroup analyses,and sensitivity analyses.The overall effect analysis showed that non-natives use significantly more attended this than English natives do(d=0.2).Subgroup analyses showed that this overall effect is moderated by non-natives’English proficiency(d=0.6),first language(d=0.4),and genre(d=0.6).Sensitivity analyses revealed that the educational system L2 learners underwent and the amount of L2 exposure might also moderate the overall effect.Our findings may provide valuable information for research on the development of localized English for research publication purposes in China and implications for pedagogy.
