Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma in a vein wall:Case report and review of the literature

Background Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma(EHE)is a rare,well differentiated vascular tumor with intermediate malignancy between hemangioma and angiosarcoma[1,2].It occurs nearly in all age groups and affects both sexes equally.The tumor develops as a solitary,slightly painful mass in soft tissue of the lower extremities.In rare instances it occurs in viscera and long bone,such as in the liver[3,4],lung[5],spine[6],femur and tibia[7].At least half of cases are closely associated with or arise from a vessel,usually a vein[8].Here we report a patient with EHE and describe its clinicopathological features.The pathogenesis and treatment of this tumor is also discussed with literature review.
