摘要
《长日将尽》以管家史蒂文斯的“不可靠”叙述视角,通过空间上的移步换景,把空间和史蒂文斯身份定位之间复杂的交互关系展示出来。史蒂文斯在达林顿府、旅途乡野、小镇码头三地的空间转换向读者展示空间与身份、权力、阶级等因素的交互,反映他个人身份的错位、困惑与反思以及自我意识的苏醒,也揭示帝国雄鹰折翼后那种怀旧情结和帝国身份的虚幻性。
The Remains of the Day presents the complex interaction between space and Stevens’ identity through the "unreliable" narrative perspective of the butler Stevens. The space transformation journey of Stevens in Darlington mansion, countryside and town dock shows readers the interaction between space and other factors, such as identity, power, class interaction, reflecting the dislocation, confusion and reflection of his personal identity and the awakening of self-consciousness, thus reveals the illusoriness of the nostalgia and imperial identity.
