This paper introduces the breeding process,characteristics and cultivation techniques of the improved variety of Phyllostachys vivax‘Huanggan’.P.vivax‘Huanggan’originated from the variation during the introduction of P.vivax in Yongcheng County,Henan Province,in 1982.After years of purification,breeding,character observation and regional tests,its character performance is consistent and stable.In 2022,it achieved the examination and approval of improved varieties(National S-SV-PV-004-2022).The young culms of P.vivax‘Huanggan’are bright golden yellow,with one or several irregular green vertical stripes at the middle and lower nodes.It has excellent ornamental properties and strong cold resistance,which enable it normally grow and overwinter in Beijing area.It can be widely applied in urban and rural greening.
