A Contrastive Analysis of Literary Characters from a Perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics:A Case Study of Liu Laolao and Wang Xifeng in Hong Lou Meng

文章以系统功能语言学及物性系统为视角,在物质过程、言语过程、心理过程、环境成分及其评价价值的框架下,对比分析了《红楼梦》中刘姥姥和王熙凤人物形象的差异,旨在证明作者对及物性系统的选择和运用对表现文学作品中的人物形象具有重要作用。

This paper made a contrastive analysis between Liu Laolao and Wang Xifeng,two important characters of Hong Lou Meng,from a perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics.Based on the theories of material process,verbal process,mental process as well as circumstantial elements and appraisal systems,the study discussed the great impact of author’s linguistic selection of transitivity system on construction of literary characters.
