A new study of the Linghu Jun Ruzi hu kettle

令狐君孺子壶二十世纪二十年代传出于洛阳金村,共有一对两件。从器形、装饰风格、铭文用语三方面考虑,其作器时代当为春秋战国之际。壶铭中的“十年”应是周王纪年,可能为周贞定王十年(前459)。令狐君为晋国卿族魏氏的小宗,当于春秋中期受封,封地令狐位于今山西临猗县西南附近,其拥有“君”称应与春秋晚期晋国卿大夫的势力增强有关。临猗程村发现的东周墓群,应属于令狐家族。

The Linghu Jun Ruzi hu kettle was unearthed in the 1920s in Jincun, Luoyang. There are two pieces in total. Based on the shape, decorative style, and inscriptions, this article argues that the time of production of the bronze vessels was around the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period.The "ten years" mentioned in the inscriptions refer to the reign of the Zhou King and may be the tenth year of King Zhengding of the Zhou Dynasty(459 BC). Linghu Jun was a member of the Wei clan, a prominent aristocratic family in the Jin State during the Spring and Autumn period. His fief was located near presentday southwestern Linyi County, Shanxi Province. His title of "Jun" was likely related to the increasing power of the Jin State minsters in the late Spring and Autumn period. The Eastern Zhou tombs found in Chengcun,Linyi may belong to the Linghu family.
