摘要
Endosperm tissue is crucial to seed development.Monocots and dicots have evolved different fates for their endosperm:it is usually consumed in dicots during seed development, while monocot seeds retain the endosperm until maturity.Recently,Wu et al.(2022)addressed the role of divergent epigenetic regulation over the functionally conserved IKU2 gene contributing to silenced or persistent endosperm proliferation and have provided insights into divergent seed ontogeny patterns in plants. Here,we highlight the novel findings from this study and their potential significance.
