As an important component of the time category of Russian verbs,the past tense form has the pragmatic functions of indicating,conveying subjective modal meanings,triggering pragmatic presuppositions and constituting quasi-performatives in verbal communication.Analyzing the past tense form of Russian verbs in communicative situations from the perspective of pragmatics and summarizing its functional characteristics are beneficial to revealing the pragmatic features of the grammatical form and to contributing to the cross-over study of Russian grammar and pragmatics.
