Since 2019, the multi-grid city layout of Erlitou, an ancient capital city, has been revealed after the discovery of ruins of trunk roads and their flanking walls in the central area of Erlitou Site. The research into handicraft archaeology and city layout has been given new impetus, for, within the square and regular grids, a considerable number of pottery-making remains and ruins of workshops where bone artefacts as well as horn artefacts were crafted have been discovered for the first time, and ruins supposed to be lacquer ware workshops has been newly discovered. The “integration layout of the residential and burial sites” and acts of violence, as demonstrated by newly discovered sites of residences, burial places and relevant archaeological evidence west of the sacrificial area, enrich the history of the ancient capital city and shed new light on the archaeological research into this particular subdivision.
