Aligning a Block on a Bracket:A Clue to the Measurement Design of Dougong in Chinese and Japanese Architecture

斗栱尺度设计方法的探讨,一直是建筑技术史研究关注的重点。斗栱尺度关系的特色很大程度上基于其独特的斗栱构成关系,本文以斗栱构成关系这一线索,探讨唐宋斗栱尺度设计的方法和特色,并与日本唐样斗栱作比较分析。

In the field of historical building technology,the measurement design for dougong has drawn much attention.As the difference between the design methods is largely determined by the composition of brackets(gong)and blocks(dou),this paper discusses the dougong design for Tang-Song architecture by analyzing the composition of bracketing components.Furthermore,the paper identifies a distinguishing feature in measurement design through comparison with the design of bracket sets in Japanese Kara-you architecture.
