On the Simplicity and Openness of Guan Hanqing’s Music Style

关汉卿70多篇散曲中,充分表现出了淳朴与豁达的曲风特点。淳朴表现为源自市井生活的题材、多种修辞方式的语言和粗犷风趣的风格等方面;而豁达则是关汉卿散曲中借助自我解嘲的风格和“代言”抒情的手法所表达出的思想感情。关汉卿的散曲创作不仅在当时取得了卓越的成就,并对后世散曲的发展产生了巨大影响。

Guan Hanqing’s more than seventy Sanqu fully demonstrate the simplicity and open-mindedness that characterize his Sanqu style. The simplicity is manifested in the subjects derived from the life of the marketplace, the language of various rhetorical styles, and the rough and funny style. The “open-mindedness” is the thought and feeling expressed in Guan Hanqing’s Sanqu by means of self-deprecating style and the lyrical technique of “advocacy”. Guan Hanqing’s Sanqu compositions were not only a remarkable achievement at the time, but also had a great influence on the development of Sanqu compositions in later generations.
