格温·约翰肖像作品中的色彩——以两组肖像为例

摘要 格温•约翰,全名格温多琳•玛丽•约翰[Gwendolen Mary John,1876-1939],是活跃于19世纪末20世纪初的一位英国画家。她在1904年永久定居在法国,在巴黎城郊的莫东度过了大部分创作时光。格温保留下来的油画作品共计一百五十余幅,多数是室内的单个人物肖像画,通常是无名女孩或修女,小部分是静物和风景,她善于用一系列色调非常相近的低饱和颜色,绘制出色彩关系安静又微妙的作品。本文将以格温•约翰的两组肖像画为例,结合画家的性格、生活经历等,稍加分析画家肖像作品的独特色彩风格。 Gwendolen Mary John(1876-1939),generally shortened to Gwen John,was an English painter active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.She settled permanently in France in 1904 and spent most of her creative life in the Parisian suburb of Meudon.The total number of Gwen's preserved canvases is over one hundred and fifty,mostly interior portraits of single figures,usually unnamed girls or nuns,and to a lesser extent still lifes and landscapes,and she was adept at painting quiet yet subtle colour relationships in a range of low-saturation colours of very similar hues.In this article we will take two groups of portraits by Gwen John as examples and analyse the distinctive colour style of the artist's work in a little bit of context,taking into account the artist's personality and life experiences.
